Module 09 · Audience Intelligence — Fathom

The Pulse

The ecosystem is live. Now we listen. Fathom installs on every Ghost property and begins reading how your audience actually moves — what they read, where they linger, where they leave.

Chapter 01

Flying Blind Is Not Lean

There is a version of lean operation that confuses simplicity with ignorance. Cutting analytics tools to save $14/month while publishing content without knowing what lands is not lean — it's expensive in a way that doesn't show up on a balance sheet. Every piece of content produced without feedback is a bet placed without odds.

Fathom solves this cleanly and inexpensively. It installs as a single script on every Ghost property, begins tracking visitor behavior immediately, and feeds that data to The Analyst agent every Monday morning. No dashboards to check, no data to pull manually, no learning curve. The signal arrives, you read it, you make one better decision this week than you would have made last week.

The reason Fathom specifically — not Google Analytics, not any other free alternative — comes down to a single principle this ecosystem operates on: your audience's behavior on your property belongs to you, not to an ad network. Fathom is privacy-first by design. It tracks what you need to know without feeding behavioral data to third parties who will use it to advertise against your audience. The $14/month is the cost of keeping that data inside the ecosystem.

You don't need to know everything about your audience. You need to know three things: what they engage with, where they disengage, and whether the pattern is changing. Fathom tells you exactly that — nothing more, nothing less.

Fathom — The Audience Layer

Audience Intelligence · $14/month
Fathom
Privacy-First Analytics · No Cookie Banners · No Ad Network Data Sharing

Fathom is a privacy-first web analytics platform built specifically for publishers and creators who want to understand their audience without compromising their audience's data. It installs as a single lightweight script, collects visitor behavior data without personal identifiers, and displays it in a clean dashboard that shows exactly what matters without drowning you in metrics that don't.

The GDPR and privacy compliance is automatic. No cookie consent banners required. No data shared with advertisers. No behavioral profiles built on your visitors and sold to third parties. Every data point Fathom captures about your audience stays inside your Fathom account — accessible only to you, used only to make better content decisions, fed only to The Analyst agent that synthesizes it into your Monday morning brief.

Fathom installs across all Ghost properties from a single account. One script per domain, one dashboard for the whole ecosystem, one data source feeding The Analyst. The setup is thirty minutes maximum. The value compounds every week it runs.

What Fathom Tells You

The Signal That Matters

Fathom tracks behavior at the page and session level. These are the data points that feed The Analyst's weekly report — the ones that actually inform content and product decisions.

Page Views & Unique Visitors
Which content is reaching people and how often. The baseline that tells you whether your publishing is working at all before you look at anything more nuanced.
Time on Page
The most honest engagement metric. Someone who spends four minutes on a post read it. Someone who spent eight seconds did not. Time on page separates reach from resonance.
Bounce Rate by Page
Where visitors arrive and immediately leave. High bounce on a sales page means the page isn't doing its job. High bounce on a content page means the content isn't landing. Both are actionable.
Referral Sources
Where your audience is coming from. Which external sources are actually sending people to the ecosystem. Confirms or challenges assumptions about where discovery is happening.
Course Page Engagement
How visitors move through the Creative Companion sales page and module sequence. Where they drop off in the funnel. Which modules have strong completion signals versus weak ones.
Goal Conversions
Custom goals set for high-value actions — newsletter signup, course page visit, purchase button click. Tracks the conversion path from first visit to committed action.
Week-over-Week Trends
The pattern over time matters more than any single week's numbers. Fathom's trend view shows whether the ecosystem is growing, plateauing, or contracting — and when a shift began.

Why Not Google Analytics

The Trade-Off Is Not About Money

Google Analytics is free. Fathom costs $14/month. The choice isn't about budget. It's about which business model you want to fund with your audience's behavioral data.

Build Checklist

[ ]
Create Fathom account under Cyber Coastlines LLC
Paid tier from day one. Business entity details entered. Billing confirmed.
[ ]
Add all Ghost properties to Fathom
Each domain added as a separate Fathom site. Tracking script generated for each. All scripts installed in Ghost site settings. Verify each domain is tracking independently.
[ ]
Verify tracking is firing on all key pages
Homepage, newsletter archive, Creative Companion sales page, course module pages, about page. Each confirmed sending data to Fathom within five minutes of install.
[ ]
Configure conversion goals
Newsletter signup, course purchase button click, paid membership upgrade. At minimum these three. Goals configured in Fathom and confirmed firing on test actions.
[ ]
Connect Fathom as Analyst agent data source
Fathom API key added to The Analyst agent in Lindy. Test data pull confirmed returning correct metrics. Monday 7AM trigger confirmed pulling Fathom data alongside Ghost and Stripe.
[ ]
Remove any existing Google Analytics scripts
If Google Analytics was previously installed on any Ghost property — remove it. Fathom is the analytics layer. No third-party tracking scripts run alongside it.
[ ]
Run first Analyst report with Fathom data included
Manual test trigger on The Analyst. Confirm the three-section brief includes Fathom data alongside Stripe and Ghost subscriber data. Verify the synthesis is accurate and useful.
Before Leaving This Module
The Analyst Must Have All Three Sources

Module 09 is not complete until The Analyst agent has successfully pulled data from all three sources — Fathom analytics, Ghost subscriber data, and Stripe revenue data — and synthesized them into a coherent three-section brief. If any source is missing, the brief is incomplete and the agent is not performing its role. Fathom alone is not enough. Stripe alone is not enough. The signal comes from all three reading together.

End of Module 09
The Pulse Is Reading.

One module left. Module 10 closes the sprint — business ops, full documentation, and the complete handoff package that makes everything we built independently operable.
